FAQ

Questions we get about plywood crates

What plywood grade do you use, and will the crate look clean?+

Plywood grade describes the face veneer, not strength; we use C+/C and B/B softwood plywood depending on thickness. Appearance is not a criterion for transport packaging, and parts may differ in colour and surface. If appearance matters, tell us before the quote. See the materials page.

Which materials and thicknesses are available?+

Softwood plywood 9 to 21 mm by default, birch plywood where parts are handled repeatedly, OSB-3 and film-faced plywood on request. You choose the thickness; our engineer reviews it against your load.

How many times can a returnable crate be used?+

We do not publish a number of cycles. It is confirmed per design and depends on cargo weight, handling, transport and storage. Parts that wear can be recut from the stored file, so the rest of the crate stays in service.

How is the cargo fixed inside the crate?+

By stops cut to your unit. In our reference closed crate, four corner stops of 18 mm plywood sit in windows in the base, 2 mm from the unit, and an optional top stop limits upward movement. Fixing is designed per cargo, and the engineer reviews it.

Can I strap the crate or the cargo?+

Yes. The reference closed crate has strap guides under the base: a plywood plank with a slot that keeps the strap in place as it runs over the lid, down the sides and under the base through the fork tunnel. The strapping layout is agreed per design.

Can the crate be lifted by forklift, pallet jack or crane?+

Forklift and pallet jack access is an input to the design. The closed reference crate leaves a 90 mm clear opening under the strap guides; the open reference crate has 95 mm runners. A lowered pallet jack fork is typically about 85 mm, so tell us your equipment and we set the opening. For crane lifting, specify it in the request and we design lifting points accordingly.

Does CE marking apply to a crate?+

We do not CE-mark crates; wooden transport packaging is outside the Machinery Directive to our knowledge. A machine inside keeps its own marking and documents.

How is the crate delivered? Can I collect it?+

Pickup in Jüri is free. Delivery is quoted separately for each shipment, for example by pallet, and we can ship directly to your end customer.

Does ISPM 15 apply?+

Plywood and OSB components may fall outside ISPM 15 scope. Applicability depends on the full bill of materials and destination, and we confirm it per order. Solid timber runners fall under ISPM 15; we confirm marking per order or use plywood runners instead.

Is FSC material available?+

Most of our plywood and timber suppliers hold FSC certificates. FSC material is available on request, and we confirm it against the supplier document for your batch. We put no FSC mark on parts.

What is the minimum order?+

100 EUR per order, excluding VAT and delivery. Shipments outside Estonia have a separate logistics threshold of 150 EUR, also excluding VAT and delivery.

Flat-pack or assembled?+

Crates ship flat-packed and assemble without tools on CNC-cut joints. Screws, staples or glue are added where the load and handling need them. If you want crates assembled, say so in the request; assembly is quoted with the order.

How do I choose the thickness, and how much will the crate weigh?+

You choose the sheet thickness in the configurator. The estimate shows a theoretical weight calculated from the CAD volume and typical datasheet densities, It is an estimate, not a weighed value.

Can you mark the crate with our logo and handling symbols?+

Handling symbols and logos can be engraved on the CNC router. Tell us in the request and send the artwork with your drawing.

Can the crate be used for sea freight and long storage?+

Sea freight: moisture protection options are specified per shipment. Tell us the route and storage time in the quote request. No drawing? Send photos and dimensions. Our engineer designs the crate and sends a drawing for approval.
